Student Publication Prize

SPSP recognizes excellence in research by student members with its Student Publication Prize. Papers are eligible for consideration if they are published in the calendar year prior to nomination in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Personality and Social Psychology Review, or Social Psychological and Personality Science.

Amanda Ravary   headshot

Amanda Ravary, McGill University

Amanda Ravary is a fifth year Ph.D. student in Clinical Psychology at McGill University supervised by Dr. Mark Baldwin. In her research, she focuses on understanding the implicit social cognition of body image insecurity and the influence of evaluative social-cultural contexts on implicit bias and insecurity.

Angie LeRoy headshot

Angie LeRoy, Rice University

Dr. Angie LeRoy investigates psychosocial factors that contribute to physical pain, dysregulated stress responses, and immune dysregulation among populations that experience high stress. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow at Rice University funded by a National Institutes of Health National Research Service Award.

Pelin Gul headshot

Pelin Gul, Iowa State University

Pelin Gul's research interests revolve around understanding sex differences in psychology, and the motivational forces that lead to gender-related biases in society. She is also interested in uncovering the subtle behavioral and emotional manifestations of culture of honor. She approaches these questions with a combination of perspectives from social, cultural, and evolutionary psychology, using experimental and survey methodology.

Sarah Humberg   headshot

Sarah Humberg, University of Müenster

Sarah Humberg studied mathematics and then did her PhD in psychology at the University of Müenster (Germany). She develops extensions of Response Surface Analysis for the investigation of discrepancy hypotheses, and she also applies these methods to study, for example, the role of dyadic similarity in relationship formation.

Xian Zhao   headshot

Xian Zhao, University of Toronto

Xian Zhao is a post-doc at University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management. he received his Ph.D. at University of Kansas. Xian Zhao studies diversity and inclusion from perspectives of culture and intergroup relations. He has developed theories and examined the impacts of cultural assimilation and human-robot interaction on behaviors regarding diversity.

About the Award

Recipients of this prize receive a $400 honorarium and an accompanying plaque, which is presented at the annual Awards Ceremony held at the SPSP Annual Convention, as well as a complimentary one-year SPSP membership.

Eligibility

Requirements

  • Eligible papers must have been published in PSPR, PSPB or SPPS during the calendar year prior to nomination. For example, to be nominated in 2017, the publication must have been printed in calendar year 2016. Papers and chapters still "in press" are not eligible.
How to Apply

All student first-authored papers that have been accepted for publication in SPSP journals are automatically eligible for this prize. There is not an open call for nominations. For more information on the nomination process, see the Contact tab.
